Presents for Father's Day

Presents for Father's Day

Every year since Father’s Day began, children (and wives) have struggled to figure out what gift dad would like best on Father’s Day. Most of the time, dad usually ends up with the traditional ‘socks and jocks’, or maybe a power tool, or some other gizmo for his workshed. Whereas Mother’s Day can be an easy shopping experience with all the flowers, bath oils and chocolates that flood the market at that time, there’s a natural limit to the amount of underwear and screwdrivers a man can own.

One novel idea, but an idea also steeped in tradition, is to write a poem for dad on Father’s Day. It’s not as nerdy as it sounds. You don’t need to get all sentimental with it, just mention that you love him forever, and throw some funny bits in too.

Worried that you’re not a poet? Don’t be. Have a think about your dad – what makes him laugh or cry, what makes him mad and what makes him happy. Start making a list. Then start remembering some funny times you’ve had in the last year. Perhaps these will be crazy things your dad has done, mistakes he may have made, the time the dog chewed up his favorite golf shoes, or when dad was home alone and tried to boil an egg in the microwave. And get creative too. Make some stuff up. Your dad won’t mind!

Throw in some sporting references or the abiding love your dad has for his car or his boat. Talk about fishing trip exaggerations or that awesome poker hand he got that cleaned out his mates.

Once you have all your material, you’ll probably find the inspiration you need and the words will begin to flow. If you have siblings, get them in on the writing process too. Many heads are better than one, and you’ll soon find you’re having a blast as the ideas come thick and fast. If you ever get stuck, don’t be afraid to turn to the internet. There are many sites out there that provide rhymes if you’re ever stuck on a word.

No matter what it takes to get it written, your Father’s Day poem must be written with the heart as well as the mind. As well as the words themselves, the gift here is the time and love you’ve put into the poem. Your dad will recognize that straight away. You can see the grin on his face already, can’t you? Get started on your Father’s Day poem now.

Presents for Father's Day

Presents for Father's DayGift baskets make an excellent choice for Father’s Day gifts for a number of reasons. For one, gift baskets generally contain a large number of smaller items rather than one big gift. A bunch of small gifts can make dad feel like a kid at Christmas again – the joy of the gift can just go on and on.

There’s a wide variety of Father’s Day gift baskets to choose, particularly if you shop online. Many shops or online stores allow you to custom design a gift basket from a range of subject areas, so there’s no risk of a shop-bought gift basket appearing impersonal. Another great idea is to make up a gift basket yourself. Just go to a dollar shop and buy a nice big box – or maybe one of those plastic storage crates that dad can use again in the garage. Put a big bow on it, and fill it with the kind of stuff you know your dad will love. It’s an easy present, but one that your dad is certain to enjoy.

Food crates are becoming a popular gift basket idea. Food crates can include many different kinds of meats – whether fresh for the barbecue, or dried and smoked – and these can be accompanied by mustards, pickles, peppers, cheeses as well as crackers and a myriad of other yummies.

Sports provide a whole other range of options for Father’s Day gift baskets. Think about a golf basket which can contain items to help dad improve his game, or a basket for fans of basketball, NFL, baseball or soccer. A basket like this could include tickets to a game, DVDs, equipment or foods to eat whilst watching the game. The only limit is your imagination.

You can also think up similar Father’s Day gift baskets but with a fishing angle for example. Lines, rods, lures, books and a couple of bottles of beer and you’ve won your dad’s heart. If he’s into grilling there are some fantastic items you could add to a gift basket. How about a bar accessories basket? Or a hunting basket, or paint balling?

It certainly pays to go that extra mile and think up some truly unique Father’s Day gift ideas. Choose carefully and your dad will appreciate and value the time and thought that you put into his gift basket.

Presents for Father's Day

Presents for Father's DayFather’s Day comes round once a year and if you love your dad, it’s a day you need to make sure turns out just right. Many men these days feel that showing emotion or even having emotion is a sign of weakness. But emotion is what makes you human and is a natural part of life despite what society dictates and preaches.

Father’s day is the one day each year that a dad should be able to soak up all the love, appreciation and caring from his family. As a family it is the one day a year that you can lavish all your attention on the man in your life, and show him what he means to you.

And for this reason everyone wants a happy Father’s Day. As easy as that might sound, having a happy Father’s Day is not always simple as all that. So how do you go about organizing the perfect Father’s Day for everyone involved? You need to do a little homework.

Being a father and a husband can be a taxing job and a role that is filled with non-stop responsibility. And so, from your dad’s point of view, a happy father’s day can consist of simply letting him relax and do as he pleases. If he is the kind of guy that likes to sleep in, watch sport, enjoy a good meal, read the paper undisturbed or anything else, arrange the day so he can do just that. That is one surefire way to make sure that he has a happy Father’s Day. To involve the rest of the family, especially smaller children, why not plan something that everyone can enjoy.

You don’t have to pack the day full of action. Most dads will simply love being surrounded by family, and of course, every dad loves getting presents too. Don’t forget that your father has his own father to honor as well. Father’s Day is an important day to think about family in a broader sense – how all that you’ve come to enjoy and celebrate on this wonderful day is due to the support and love and hardwork of your grandfather and the men who came before him.

A picnic in the sun is a Father’s Day event that many families hold in their hearts as the ideal kind of day. If that’s your family, then you probably already know what to do. If picnicking is new to your family why not give it a try? Hundreds and thousands of families around the world can’t be wrong. Pack a basket full of goodies, choose a beautiful location, pack a ball or a frisbee, some presents for your dad, and don’t forget the old man himself. Have a wonderful day just lazing around, laughing with your family, and playing some ball. Its what life’s all about, isn’t it?

Happy Father’s Day!

Presents for Father's Day

Presents for Father's DayFather’s Day is a great time to really take the time to make the special man or men in your life a great gift. Handmade gifts are not only less expensive, but they also tend to take more time and planning. And of course, any father in the world is bound to love a gift that was made by his kids! These are the kinds of items that stick around and are remembered for years and years. There are many different kinds of Father’s Day crafts for kids. No matter the age, experience, or skill level of a child, he or she will still be able to make their father something special and unique. The following are some great Father’s Day crafts for kids.

One excellent Father’s Day craft for kids is to make dad a picture frame. Then, once this project is completed, a photograph of the child and his or her father can go into this lovely gift. This makes the craft that much more special and unique.

Making a picture frame is incredibly easy because there are so many different ways to go about it. You can even find templates or print outs of stencils for the project online. This is where it comes in handy to look for Father’s Day crafts online: you’ll find many resources that will make these projects so much easier. Once the child has created the basic frame, they should decorate it with anything from paint and markers to sequins, glitter, and fabric scraps. This is an incredibly unique gift that is sure to be remembered for quite some time.

Another classic craft for kids to try their hands at is using modeling clay to make a Father’s Day gift. Kids love the feel of clay in their hands, and many kinds of clay today are easy to use because they can air dry. Great Father’s Day ideas for kids to make are key trays, pencil cups, or candy dishes out of clay. This way, the gift is something that can be used in their father’s day-to-day life. A simple and useful dish is easy to make and personalize. Once the clay hardens, the child can take paint and really make the gift unique. If a child is very young, another great Father’s Day craft for kids is to make shapes or animals out of the clay. This way, they still have a memorable gift to give, but the process will be simplified.

Presents for Father's Day

Presents for Father's DayFather’s day is a special day of the year where families honor their fathers and grandfathers, and celebrate the important institution of fatherhood. It’s a day of gift giving, and is usually celebrated with families coming together for lunches or dinners. While Father’s Day is acknowledged on different days in different countries it most typically falls on the third Sunday in June.

In many nations, Father’s Day is celebrated as a secular holiday however given the loving and honoring nature of the day many religious heads include Father’s Day in the sermons that they give to their followers.

Countries such as Italy and Spain and others that are predominantly Roman Catholic celebrate Father’s Day on the nineteenth day of March, also known as St. Joseph’s Day, or the Feast of St Joseph. In Thailand, Father’s Day is celebrated on the birthday of the king. In Taiwan, Father’s Day is observed on the eighth day of the eighth month as the Mandarin Chinese pronunciation of the number 8 is ‘ba’ – which sounds very similar to the character used for ‘papa’ or ‘father’. Australia and New Zealand celebrate the day in September, and since 2010 Romania celebrates Father’s Day in May – until last year it had been the only country in the EU which didn’t acknowledge a Father’s Day.

In the US, and in many other countries, Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in the month of June and this is a tradition that dates back to beginning of the nineteenth century. In 1908, the first observance of Father’s Day in the US took place in West Virginia when Grace Golden Clayton arranged a day to celebrate the lives of 210 fathers lost in a mining disaster at Monongah. A few years later, Sonora Smart Dodd, listening to a sermon on Mother’s Day in Spokane, Washington, decided a day was needed to honor fathers. Dodd’s own father was William Smart, a Civil War veteran who raised a family of six children after his wife died in childbirth.

These thoughts galvanized Dodd into approaching church officialdom and the YMCA with the request that a day be reserved to commemorate the service provided by fathers and this led the Church to designate Father’s Day to be held in middle of June each year. The first official Father’s Day took place in 1910.

Congress resisted the introduction of a national Father’s Day holiday for many years. Many formal attempts to acknowledge the holiday were defeated in Congress (who feared the day would become commercialized) until President Lyndon B Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring Father’s Day. A few years later, President Richard Nixon signed the day as a permanent national holiday into law in 1972.
